Body on Earth
A selection of haiku poems I have written exploring the wonder and intangibilities felt, known, and hinted at when immersed in the natural world. And what this means to be a heart leaning human amidst it all.
Explored through six themes: witness, heart and breath, movement, light, flesh, remember.
Flesh
-
the weight on the earth
is the earth, no division
to feel is to be
-
here stands that something
a being not as before
she’s ripe as the dew
-
a world to be seen
but one forgotten in touch
the skin it longs too
-
the earth, kept in mind
holds the dreams from the body
a body, on earth
-
Remember
-
absence, and then what
one thing you mustn’t forget
the sun built the world
-
held within your palms
how many ways of knowing
held between your eyes
-
Witness
-
to see, what’s a sight?
when invisible fills you
if only we saw
-
whenever you pause
it reveals itself to you
a gaze engaged and returned
-
aware of the door
an opening to the real
oh, what a relief
-
the smallest movement
I learn how to bear witness
and then I can see
-
Heart and breath
-
and like this I flow
how many ways to be me
edgeless and faceless
-
and then I could see
skyscrapers breathing their sky
one inch off the ground
-
the life is right here
two hands rest upon her heart
pulsing breathing earth
-
a feeling comes twice
feeling held feeling witnessed
what a beholding
-
Movement
-
the sound of the air
is obstruction and silence
flowing over earth
-
where does movement start
when did stillness feel the pull
questions not answers
-
I hear you coming
I see not you but your trail
I feel you away
-
Light
-
intangible is
what is dark is not hidden
light and its absence
